A mojito is a popular highball drink originating from Cuba. This drink is perfect for anyone who wants something tasty and flavorful,

but without all the extra juices–and calories. Its the perfect low-calorie cocktail. You can sip on some all day long and not have to worry about squeezing into your bikini a few weeks later.

It consists of five main ingredients: white rum, sugar, lime juice, sparkling water, and mint. According to Wikipedia.com, the original Cuban recipe uses spearmint or yerba buena, a mint variety very popular on the island. It combines hints of sweetness, refreshing citrus, and mint flavors to enhance the spirits of the rum.

But for those of you who like your cocktails a little stronger…this may not be the drink for you. Mojitos have a relatively low alcohol content; about 10 percent alcohol by volume.

DIY:

Summer is right around the corner, so I’ve decided to hook you guys up! According to Foodnetwork.com, take a tropical time-out with this recipe:

4 tablespoons sugar
Club soda
4 slices lime

Directions:

Place ice in beverage shaker then add in the rum, 8 broken up mint sprigs, lime juice and sugar. Shake well and serve over ice in a high ball glass. Top off each glass with a splash of club soda.

  1. Mojito’s are one of my go to drinks if I’m looking for a slight buzz. Since summer (and graduation which means prepping for my grad party) is coming up, I’m definitely gonna try my hand at making this cocktail from the recipe you posted!
